The past, present and future of VR & AR in Eindhoven

Thursday Workshop – May 3
The past, present and future of VR & AR in Eindhoven

Some things we just need to talk about! During the course of the exhibition we are exploring a variety of topics through workshops. We would like to make a final workshop more of a cherry pick of the various people involved with these projects. On this final Thursday we are happy to invite the Hyper Space Collective, Manus VR, Game Solution Lab, Dutch Rose Media and Beam it Up to explain this intriguing business.

Elements of virtual reality appeared as early as 1860’s. Through Science Fiction the concept has been elaborated on for example in Stanley G. Weinbaum’s 1935 short story “Pygmalion’s Spectacles” that describes a goggle-based virtual reality system with holographic recording of fictional experiences, including smell and touch. In reality, the virtual reality has gone from being a Sensorama-machine, to a Head-Mounted Display and has now reached unprecedented technological advancements, as well as a seeming consumer boom. But where does the future of VR and AR lie? Who pushed the development of these technologies? Why is no one buying the consumer products in the Mediamarkt?

On this evening we will see a large variety of how these techniques are implemented and used. They vary from e-health to journalism, from high end business products to hands on user interfaces.

18:00 – Drop in to see some of the projects in the exhibition
19:00 – Introduction to the panel with short presentations
19:30 – Panel discussion
20:15 – Beers and hang out time!

This event is free.
